Experience Design Lead for Anthology Marketing Group
Hawaiʻi Government Employee Association is the largest public-sector labor union in Hawaiʻi and was in need of a redesign/overhaul of its website that had been created in the late 2000’s. During the 8-10 year lifespan of the site, the constant addition of content had made the site unwieldy to maintain and navigate. Market research had shown that accessibility of union information on the intranet was suffering from low usage by its members, in part from poor site design.
The proposed solution to HGEA was to present a CMS website that had both a public-facing side and password-protected side for three user groups (HGEA administrators, union team leaders, and union members. The public-facing side was a standard website that was able to be administrated by HGEA while the password-protected side was also able to be administrated by HGEA. The site also needed API functionality to enable HGEA to manage its userbase and related documents on a separate system yet communicate seamlessly with Umbraco.
A thorough content audit, interviews with department managers to understand the internal workflow, sitemap development, and wireframes were produced. An exercise with the HGEA team was conducted to further define and flush out their online branding and identity.
